I hate to be sick!!! It fucks up my work life and I don't like my work life fucked up! So I will fight a damn cold like no other! I take every holistic meds I can find and if I am not dying (that means the flu) I take my butt to work and take cold meds that will suppress my symptoms and put on a happy face!!! Now most people are like "If I'm sick I'm not going to work!!!!" Well if you have a book like I do it's a BIG deal to call out! And my clients are men busy men who don't have a lot of time so if I call out and they are booked that day most likely 75% will book on another day but that other 25% will go with someone else that day so that is 25% I lose plus the whole day I lost. NOT GOOD!!!! Men to me aren't as loyal as women, women will go above and beyond for their hair Appointment! So for me it is very important to have consistency and also it's just important to treat my job as my main priority and my clients are the BIGGEST priority of my job because without them I wouldn't have a job. My clients know if I call out of work something important has happened or I'm dying, NO REALLY they do! So what's my point??? My point is suck it up, take your ass into work and act like it's the best day of your life, and DON'T tell them your sick!!! No client wants to know that and if you can't hide it some people just can't or WONT!!!! Yes wont! then keep your ass at home you'll lose more clients by being nasty than calling out! You need to put it in your mind that YOU can make it through and WILL make it through and you will!
Now for you clients if you do have a stylist that isn't able to hide that fact they are sick these are a few things you should call them on so you wont get sick!!! If they are wiping their nose, coughing in their hand and not washing their hands SAY SOMETHING!!! If they are coughing in you face or direction SAY SOMETHING!!! Now stylist if you are doing those things you need to get a damn grip! Am I saying it's good to work sick? NO but this is a business that being sick isn't a option and if your calling out all the time you wont be successful in building a strong book and trust me your clients will stick with you if you are a dependable stylist. So stay healthy, take care of yourself and get a lot of sleep, sleep is the wonder cure!!!
OK people stay healthy and if ya can't stay positive and work through it it will pay off in the end!
Cheers, PK

My Feet, my back, my shoulder UGH and my hand!!
Oh yea my fellow stylist our job is very Hard on our body and it is super important we take care of ourselves!!! Things I have done that have help are: pay attention to my arm positions when doing hair (elbow should NOT be higher than your shoulder!), got a stool that I sit on while cutting (Yes I know some salons don't want that "Look" but it has helped my back so much it's amazing and I do 10-12 haircuts a day!), having a mat under your chair, wearing ugly orthopedic shoes (can still wear cute shoes with the stool) and compression tights will also help with not getting spider and varicose veins. Keeping fit by working out or doing yoga keeps you limber and mussels strong and that is a must, remember if you are gaining weight and standing on your feet all day that will be VERY hard on your body, so eat right also even if you don't have a lot of time bring healthy options from work don't order out fast foods they will just suck the energy out of you, your body takes more energy to digest fat than healthy foods. Also taking a few minutes to just chill during a crazy day is a must!!! You ask HOW????? Hell I'll go take a pee and just sit there a few extra minutes to gather myself and it really helps. Also SLEEP is so important that is when our body is repairing ourselves and if your not sleeping your hurting your body we need 7 hours a night so if you want to last in this biz without being in pain take care of yourself, I endded up in the Emergency Room in Feb of 2010 thinking I blew out a disk and it was a damn muscle spasms that put me face first into the floor while trying to put my shoes on!!! And not to mention the work I missed because I wasn't taking care of myself so people take care of yourself mind and body and you will be able to do amazing hair and sure as Hell enjoy doing it pain free!!! I've posted a few links (just cut and paste) to sites that will give some suggestions on how to chill out and what exercises will help. Stay sane and healthy people!!

Butterfly Studio Salon in NYC looks like a good choice!!
Good morning my people!!! On a snowy Wednesday laying in bed (should be at the gym but with the snow and all..... ;) I am looking at the wonderful people who have decided to follow me on Twitter and I come across Butterfly Studio Salon, took a look at their website and yelp reviews and was very interested! One I would love to go in and get a hair treatment for my VERY lightened locks they use Kerastase and they use IONA color by L’Oreal which I have heard great things about although that isn't the service I need and their Yelp reviews are super positive. So I am planing at some point to go try out the hair treatment and I will report back on my experience! But I would suggest that you give their site a look and if your on Twitter give them a follow @butterflynyc . Here is a link to their site.

Going from Long hair to Short hair? DONATE!!!
Are you thinking about going from Long hair to Short well Donate that hair to a charity that helps children and adults that lose their hair from Cancer treatments. Most of us have known or know people who have had to suffer through the harsh treatments that come with having Cancer and know how devastating it is when they start to lose their hair so if your thinking about cutting a pretty decent amount of hair off DONATE IT!!!! I have listed some sites that tell you what the guidelines are and some of the charities.
Also for you Hair Stylist if you have a client who is thinking about cutting all their hair off ask them if "YOU" can donate it, it doesn't matter how they get the hair just as long as they get it!! There are certain guidelines you have to consider so be sure to read all the info and then also check with the charity you chose to see if they have different guidelines.

I had Rihanna's New Hair Style
Yep that is Rihanna she is sporting a wig that I had in the 80's!!!! I swear I did but it was Platinum Blond!
A few Golden Globe Hair Styles that got my eye!
Sandra Bullock's bangs got my attention!! I actually really love this look on her but maybe not with the dress, something a bit more RETRO and black.
L-O-V-E Mila Kunis's messy french twist
January Jones hair color is beautiful!!
Jennifer Lopez put a new twist on the pony tail, so simple but perfect and just add some Bling to dress it up for the red carpet.
It's PK TIME!!!
Ok "It's PK Time" is my Rants and Raves a little more of a personal opinion on all things hair. So here we go my first RANT!!!
Why the Hell are some shampoo's and conditioners $45 and up?????? WHY??? Now YES I have tried these super expensive products and yes they do a good job but NOT that damn good!! Why should we fall into more debt washing our damn hair??? I will spend a decent amount of cash on a great deep conditioning treatment and trust me I can tell you if they really are worth it on my level 12 lighten hair (From a 5! That means pretty dark!) My hair is hungry for moisture and repair so yes spending a bit more on a Rad treatment can be a life saviour! But when salons are charging crazy amounts YOU ARE getting screwed!!! There is about a 100% mark-up on product! Yep so think that over before you get taken to the bank for some foo-foo too good to be true make your hair like new product!! Oh and yes I will be speaking about my fav products and they range from low cost to a tiny bit pricey but I have tried them all! OK RANT DONE!

What do you want to know??
Hello People!! Okay as of now I am making a list of topics that I would love to cover to do with hair, these that I have listed below are more on the costumer service side than practical side of hair styling. You will not have success with your service or doing a service without a clear view of what you want or what your going to do. So if you have any suggestions please post so we can cover them also and feel free to give me tips on what you do or how you do these things.
Cheers, PK

Introduction to PK Does Hair
Hello People! I'm PK and I'm excited to start this Blog! I am hoping to help educate people in the world of hair. You may ask who the Hell am I and why do I think I can give anyone in-site into hair? Well I have been doing hair off and on for 25yrs. LOVE what I do and if I may say so myself I do a damn good job at it. From the time I was 13 I wanted to do hair and it was something that came very natural to me, I specialize in color and color correction but do it all. I currently work in NYC at a Men's Grooming Salon, first time I have ever just done men's hair and it has been the best learning experience I have had in the business and made me think that the things I have learned through trail and error is something that you never learn from school, classes or shows so I wanted to give the client and the stylist that info. I believe learning and teaching are the most important things in our life and if I can do both through this Blog that's amazing! I will also be posting on YouTube recorded sessions and info on the Biz so look out for those they should be BIG fun.
Cheers, PK
